NVR is the abbreviation for Network Video Recorder. It is a software program typically runs on a dedicated device with an operating system. The main purpose of the device is to record videos in digital format over a storage media – usually disk drive, USB drive, or a mass storage device. Although the function is similar to DVR, the process and the functionality of NVR is distinct. NVR is connected to an IP network system through which it receives the videos. The videos in a NVR based CCTV system, is encoded and processed on the camera itself. The video is transferred to NVR for storage and remote monitoring purposes.
